Through this release, Office for Android has been bumped to version 16.0.10325.20010, previewing what will be available next month. As usual, Microsoft has made changes across the core Office applications. Microsoft Word is landing two new abilities in the July update. The first is an improved word count tool, which now displays word count when scrolling. This is an ideal feature for users working with large documents. The second Microsoft Word feature coming to Office for Android is an enhanced zoom function. Specifically, zoom now snaps to fit documents on the screen. This is welcome to anyone who knows how frustrating it is when zooming and having to finger scroll to find the needed part of the document. On a smartphone we feel this zoom improvement is a vital addition to Word.
Outlook and PowerPoint
Microsoft has also focused its attention on Outlook and PowerPoint for Android. For PowerPoint, users can now capture and share images more efficiently. Photos are more accessible from within the application and managing images requires fewer taps. On a mobile device, the least taps and more efficiency are essential. Also in regards to efficiency on PowerPoint, Microsoft has made presentation interactions easier. Users can access and read comments more simply, while editing tiles now requires less steps. An improved review mode is also part of the update. In terms of Outlook, the email service finally provides users with the ability to delete contacts directly in the app. Furthermore, functions such as do not disturb have been included. With this, users can toggle to not receive notifications.
